Passengers taking a trip on a hovercraft from Southsea in Portsmouth to Ryde in the Isle of Wight can enjoy discounted fish and chips this summer.
The Codfather in Ryde and Hovertravel have joined forces to offer passengers taking the 10-minute flight from the Southsea terminal a return ticket and a fish and chips supper for £33 per adult and £17 per child.
With a regular portion of fish and chips at The Codfather costing £10 and a return hovercraft ticket priced at £31.50 for adults and £15.80 for children, owner Harrison John Booth hopes the ‘fly & fry’ promotion will increase footfall to his takeaway this summer.
He comments: “It’s quite funny how the promotion came about. We struggle with stock on the island because we use mainland companies and if something goes awry we have to find some way of fixing it.
“Recently I had a problem with a delivery from one of our suppliers and Friars Pride saved my bacon by using Hovertravel’s freight service. I took three large chips over to the team at Hovertravel to say thank you, they really liked them so I said wouldn’t it be a good idea if we could do something together.
“The promotion is a good way to encourage tourism to the island. We love the tourists. The island loves the tourists. Anyone on the island who tells you they don’t love the tourists isn’t from the island!
“It is also our 25th anniversary, so it has coincided lovely with that. Nothing is set in stone yet but, if all goes well, we’re hoping to do another deal with Hovertravel in the winter as well.”
As well as the ‘fly & fry’ offer, The Codfather has extended a 50% discount to all Hovertravel staff. Harrison adds: “The promotion has only just launched so it’s a little bit too early to see an uptake yet, but what we have seen is an increase in Hovertravel staff coming and using the 50% discount!”
