Fryday 2nd June marks National Fish and Chip Day in the UK – an annual celebration of Britain’s favourite dish!
Seafood from Norway, one of the sponsors of the day, is offering free resources and content for fish and chip shops to use to help tell the story of the produce behind the dish. Helping to celebrate sustainable seafood and maximise sales, on what is likely to be one of the busiest days of the year.
Hosted on the Fish & Tips Sustainability Resource Hub are a number of digital tools to put to good use, including:
- National Fish and Chip Day Social Media Toolkit
This toolkit is packed with tips and advice for communicating with customers about the day, including example posts, relevant hashtags, ideas for building engagement and links through to free imagery and videos to share on your channels.
- National Fish and Chip Day Origin Film
This easily sharable film hosted on YouTube celebrates the nostalgia around the great British dish of fish and chips and highlights the importance of choosing sustainable cod and haddock to ensure that the dish stays on menus in the future too.
- ‘Know Where your Fish is From’ posters
These A3 posters can be easily downloaded and printed, or displayed on digital screens throughout your shop. They encourage customers to consider where their fish is from, with a QR code linking through to a film which explains the sustainable credentials of Norwegian cod and haddock.
Seafood from Norway will also support the National Fish and Chip Day Roadshow in London, outside the iconic Trinity House, supplying seafood caught from Norway’s cold, clear waters, home to an abundance of cod and haddock.
Victoria Braathen, UK director for the Norwegian Seafood Council, commented: “Next week marks the annual celebration of the nation’s favourite dish. As a proud supplier of responsibly sourced cod and haddock to the UK, Norway joins the UK in celebrating one of the most iconic dishes ever to be created.
“The popularity of fish and chips continues to represent the love so many have for the dish. To ensure its future for years to come consumers should be encouraged to understand why choosing responsibly sourced seafood is so important. We hope these resources will help fish and chip shops do this in a creative and interesting way, positioning seafood as a wholesome protein choice which is good for people and the planet.”
Later in June, as a continuation of the celebrations, the Norwegian Seafood Council will also host a study trip to Norway for the winners of this year’s National Fish & Chip Awards. The trip will give operators the opportunity to witness Norway’s responsible fishing practices for themselves – an ever-important way to ensure they not only embrace the quality produce they are serving, but can also talk confidently about its origin to consumers too.
