The Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC) is supporting this year’s National Fish & Chip Day by sponsoring the event.

National Fish & Chip Day takes place on Friday 27th May and is run by trade association the National Edible Oil Distributors’ Association (NEODA) in a bid to give fish and chips the recognition it deserves and help to secure its position as the nation’s favourite dish.

Hans Frode Kielland Asmyhr, UK director of Norwegian Seafood Council, says: “We are delighted to sponsor National Fish and Chip Day this year. We have worked closely with the fish and chip industry in the UK for many years supplying sustainable frozen-at-sea cod and haddock of the highest quality, and this is an important opportunity to celebrate our longstanding relationship.”

Norway is home to the world’s largest cod stock, consistently supplying around one third of the UK’s cod and haddock. For many years, Norway has been at the forefront when it comes to maintaining and regulating sustainable fisheries. By choosing Seafood from Norway, fish and chip shops can be confident that they really are serving their customers the best quality sustainable seafood.

Commenting on the event, Gary Lewis, president of NEODA, adds: “National Fish & Chip Day has become more popular each year and in 2022, as a warm up to the Queen’s Jubilee, we want it to be even bigger! It’s a celebration of the stars who work hard to bring Brits their favourite traditional takeaway. We want to bring the whole industry together to celebrate and showcase the great British institution that is fish and chips.”
