Frying range and equipment manufacturer Hopkins is giving away its newly upgraded batter mixer, worth £775, to one of this year’s Fry Awards winners.

The machine is the latest version of Hopkins’ batter mixer, which now comes with variable speed control. Where earlier models ran at a fixed pace, the new unit covers anything from 50 RPM up to 3000 RPM. This means operators can slow the speed down while the flour goes in, then wind it up for a proper, solid mix.

The mixer holds 12 litres of batter and is made from stainless steel at Hopkins’ factory in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Hopkins points to easy cleaning and reliability as its other selling points, alongside the consistency that comes from taking the guesswork out of batter.

Hopkins owner Ferhat Akkaya comments: “A customer who gets a crisp piece of fish one week and a soggy one the next simply stops coming back, but with a mixer, every member of staff makes the batter the same way. There’s a technical benefit too: hand-whisking against hot metal can generate enough heat to catch the batter, whereas the mixer’s action avoids it.”

Although intended for batter, the company is also looking at alternative fittings, such as dough hooks, to turn the machine into a more universal piece of kit capable of mixing additional products.

Takeaways, restaurants and mobiles that make The Fry Awards when the results are announced in January 2027 will be entered into the prize draw for a chance to win Hopkins’ latest batter mixer.

Hopkins sponsored the Fry Awards 2026, providing an eight-piece frying utensils bundle to businesses that successfully made the Fry 50 Best Fish & Chip Takeaways and Fry 10 Best Fish & Chip Restaurants.

Continuing that support into 2027, Ferhat added: ”We like to support the industry whenever we can, and we like to support Fry Magazine too. We think it’s important that operators get recognised for what they do, and hopefully this prize will be a real benefit to the shop owner who wins it.”

The Fry Awards are open for fish and chip takeaways, restaurants and mobiles to enter until 30th September 2026 at www.frymagazine.com/fry-magazine-awards
