The Mayfair Chippy is to open its second site in London in November just doors away from luxury department store Harrods.
The 104-seater fish and chip and seafood restaurant in Brompton Road, Knightsbridge, will be split over two floors and will serve signature dishes popular at its North Audley Street site in Mayfair. These include cod or haddock with chips and mushy peas, a veggie version made with halloumi, and shepherd’s pie.
Unlike its original site, Knightsbridge will be open all day, serving breakfasts that include the Fisherman’s Breakfast comprising cod sausages, treacle cured salmon bacon, “posh” baked beans and organic eggs.
The Knightsbridge restaurant, which is three times the size of Mayfair, will also feature a gin bar serving cocktails and a 24-cover heated outdoor dining space. It will open seven days a week offering eat-in, takeaway, click and collect and delivery.
The site, formerly owned by TWG Tea, has been closed since Covid and is currently undergoing a complete refurbishment with a new kitchen and fittings to bring it in line with its Mayfair restaurant. It is due to open on 1st November.
Pete Taylor, who founded The Mayfair Chippy with Jamie Jones and George Hammer, comments: “We had two other locations that we lost during Covid and now seemed the right time to expand. Mayfair is doing really well, we get long queues every day there so opening in Knightsbridge will ease the pressure off Mayfair a little bit too.
“We’ve got a beautiful site right opposite Harrods that suits our customer profile. We are really excited.”
The Mayfair Chippy has been awarded an AA Rosette and Michelin guide accreditation since opening and claims to be one of the highest-grossing restaurants per square foot in London.
The company’s most recent venture saw it launch a six-month pop-up kiosk at the designer outlet shopping centre in Bicester Village, Oxfordshire, in March 2023.
