The Fishermen’s Mission is reminding the industry of National Fishing Remembrance Day, which will be held on 10th May 2026.
To mark the event, services will take place around the UK coastline in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Jersey, providing an opportunity for fishing communities to honour and remember their fishermen lost at sea.
Marc Evans, chief executive of the Fishermen’s Mission, says: “There is a strong partnership between the charities and agencies that support fishing and, once again, we have all come together to conduct this important day of remembrance for the families and communities who have lost a loved one while working at sea.
“We will also take a moment to pay our respects by remembering the fishing families who have lost those who paid the ultimate price in bringing home the catch. The Fishermen’s Mission has been proudly serving active and former fishermen and their families for over 145 years, and it is our privilege to lead these services.’
“‘For our fishing communities it is important that the dangers of fishing are recognised alongside the risks that are inherent in bringing in the catch. As an island nation, fishing is an important part of our history and culture, which we both celebrate and commemorate.”
