A self-service vending machine that cooks freshly prepared chips in just 90 seconds has been launched at a shopping centre in Wales.
Captain Chip, thought to be the first of its kind, is in operation at Eagles Meadow Shopping Centre in Wrexham. At the tap of the screen it automatically weighs chips before dispensing them into an internal fryer where they are cooked in high temperature oil, drained, seasoned and served in a box at the tap of a screen. A portion costs £2.99 and customers have the choice of adding salt and ketchup.
Captain Chip has been developed to operate within high-footfall leisure and shopping destinations, providing a consistent food offering during peak periods, including weekends and school holidays. The unit holds over 20 kilos of frozen chips, alerts when stock is low and features an automated filtration system.
The installation marks one of the first public locations for the concept, with more set to be rolled out across the country.
Speaking about the launch, a spokesperson for Captain Chip said: “Wrexham felt like a strong location to introduce the concept. Eagles Meadow Shopping Centre is a key community destination, and Captain Chip is designed to provide a quick, convenient option for visitors looking for freshly prepared food without delay. ”
