A fish and chip shop in southeast Wales has featured in the unveiling of one of football’s most unique kits.
Farnham’s at Boverton in Llantwit Major played a key role in launching the new 2024-25 Llantwit Major AFC goalkeeper jersey, which features a playful design of a fish resting on a portion of chips. The shirt is completed with shorts covered in fries, and mismatched socks – one neon pink and the other luminous green. As well as sponsoring the back of the shirt, Farnham’s at Boverton was used to film a reel for social media to promote the new kit.
Produced by Welsh sportswear company Tor Sports, the kit results from a competition held by the club. A fan submitted a unique fish and chips design, inspired by a previous home kit that featured the Welsh word “sglodion” – meaning “chips” – as the front sponsor.
Since its launch, it has been one of the manufacturer’s top sellers and has been featured on Match of the Day and CBS in the US.
Sian Bevan, manager at Farnham’s at Boverton, comments: “It was great to be involved. Llantwit Major AFC is a local amateur team and some of the boys are customers so come into the shop.
“We do try and take part and give back to the community where we can so to be involved in supporting and sponsoring Llantwit Major AFC is an honour and we wish them all the best of luck.
“It was great fun getting involved in the filming, arranging the staging and putting the top in the box so it looked like fish and chips!”
Commenting on the kit, Sian added: “The goalie kit is always changing and it gets a little bit wackier every time. It’s great to see fish and chips on it this time – it’s definitely an eye-catcher.”
The Llantwit Major AFC goalie shirt costs £45 to buy from the Tor Sports website and is available until the end of the season.
