Commercial refrigeration manufacturer Williams Refrigeration has published embodied carbon calculations for its core products, enabling operators to comply with their environmental aspirations and obligations.
Embodied carbon refers to the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the production stages of a product’s life from extraction to transport to manufacturing, and is a figure Williams is finding more operators are looking for in order to select the most appropriate appliances for a project.
Malcolm Harling, sales and marketing director at Williams Refrigeration, said:“Talking to our business partners and end-user customers we realised early on that embodied carbon figures are set to become a ‘must-have’ for foodservice equipment suppliers.
“The engineering team, supported by our environmental consultants, have been working very hard to collate the data required to compute them as quickly and accurately as possible. Their success means we are amongst the first equipment manufacturers to have our calculations produced, third party verified and available within our Revit symbols in Specifi.
“There’s no doubt that embodied carbon figures will help our industry become more sustainable as foodservice operators, manufacturers, consultants, designers and dealers work together to deliver carbon net zero.”
The products with embodied carbon figures include a selection of Jade counters and cabinets, blast chillers, Chef’s Drawers, Onyx prep stations, UBCs (Under Broiler Counters), and the undercounter Amber and Aztra cabinets. “These are our most popular models,” said Malcom, “the team is working on having figures for all our product families in the near future.”
Williams is using the CIBSE TM65 mid-level calculation method for the figures, which have been independently verified by Greener Energy Futures. Data sheets with the figures are available via Specifi or direct from Williams.
