Cash strapped Brits to cut back on meals out and takeaways

Over half of consumers plan to cut down on meals out and takeaways to help tackle the cost-of-living crisis.

The survey of 3,000 UK adults by money-saving website www.SellCell.com revealed that 51% of respondents will ditch meals out and takeaways, 52% said they will reduce the number of times they go out, and 41% will avoid buying the latest tech.

70% of UK respondents say that reducing heating use, or turning it off completely, will be their primary measure to cut costs.

In terms of day-to-day spending, 57% of respondents said they would shop in a discount or budget supermarket, while 39% plan to cancel subscriptions to the likes of Netflix and Sky, and 38% of people will buy less clothing.

A quarter said they would sell some possessions like clothing and jewellery.

With Christmas on the horizon, a huge 72% of respondents plan to reduce festive spending this year.

Overall, 94% of people say cost-of-living increases will have an adverse effect on household finances, with 26%, saying it will have an extremely detrimental effect. Only 6% stated that the crisis will have no effect on them at all.

In addition, three-quarters feel that the government isn’t supporting them throughout the crisis.
