Job title: Shop assistant
Age: 42
Nominated by: Business owner Ian Callaway, who says: “Becky is an indispensable member of my team. Her dedication and willingness to go above and beyond for our customers consistently enhance the standard of our service. Becky’s strong work ethic is continuously evidenced in her personal relationships with our regular customers. She has played a pivotal role in the training of my staff and has been by my side since I first opened eight years ago. Becky’s support and kindness, especially in regard to helping me stay organised and on top of things, have made her an invaluable asset to me as an employer.”
How long have you worked at Callaways?
I’ve been working at Callaway’s Fish and Chips for about eight years now, after being recommended by my previous boss. It was my first job in foodservice, so I learned a lot on the job and through training. While working here, I’ve completed courses such as Food Hygiene Level 2, allergy awareness and first aid.
What are your responsibilities?
My responsibilities include serving customers, preparing and packing orders, cooking the chips and making sure everything runs smoothly during busy times. I also train new staff on the till and packing, and help with deliveries, stock and ordering supplies.

What’s your favourite part of the job?
My favourite part of the job is the variety. In one shift, I might be helping customers, and in another, I could be assisting Ian with cooking on a busy Friday night. I also really enjoy making customers feel welcome and valued when they come in.
What’s your least favourite part of the job?
Unreasonable customers!
What is it that you like about working at Callaway’s?
The people. We’ve got a great team and we all get along really well. Ian is a brilliant boss, and together we work well to provide a really good service.
How do you feel about being nominated as an Unsung Hero?
Being nominated makes me feel like all the work I put in is being appreciated.
