Harry Ramsden’s opened its first restaurant in London over the weekend, nearly a century after serving its first portion of fish and chips in a small Yorkshire hut.

The Notting Hill site on Pembridge Road is just steps from Portobello Road Market and brings together the brand’s trademark British heritage with a revitalised look, improved menu and what is describes is “a refreshed commitment to quality, sustainability and hospitality”.

To celebrate the launch, the brand turned back the clock to 1928 — the year it was founded — by offering 500 portions of fish and chips cooked in beef dripping for just 7p on Saturday.

With the menu back to normal prices, regular cod costs £9.99, haddock £9.89 and chips £3.99. The menu also features plaice, scampi, homemade fishcakes, pies, sausages, fried chicken and burgers.

The Notting Hill opening is said to represent an important step in the brand’s evolution as it enters a new era while staying true to its roots.

James Fleming, CEO commented: “It’s incredibly exciting to bring Harry Ramsden’s to Notting Hill, one of London’s most vibrant neighbourhoods. The 7p promotion is our way of celebrating the local community and honouring the original Yorkshire heritage that built this brand nearly 100 years ago.”

The company says to expect several major developments to be announced soon as it continues its expansion.
