Cromars Dog Friendly menu

A fish and chip shop in St Andrews, Fife, has extended its menu so that four-legged customers can enjoy a chippy tea with their owners.

Cromars in Union Street has added a selection of dog friendly treats to its menu including cooked, cooled and chopped sausages for £2, a puppucino (whipped cream) at £1.50 and free dog biscuits.

The takeaway and restaurant, which opened in 2013, is owned by Wendy Napthine Frame who is a dog-lover herself, owning a sausage dog and two Pointers.

She comments: “Cromars has always been a dog friendly restaurant. Customers can bring their dogs in and eat in with them or they can bring them in, order and take them outside to eat, and with that we’ve always had free dog biscuits on the counter. Also for dog walkers, even if they are not buying food, we have water inside and outside for thirsty dogs so we’ve always made dogs very welcome. But we thought let’s do a bit more for them and give them their own menu.”

The move enables Cromars to better cater for the growing number of dog walkers the area attracts, whether it’s locals or day-trippers using the nearby beach.

“It’s trying to be inclusive and making everyone feel welcome,” adds Wendy. “Dogs are such a big part of our customers’ lives.”

Half of the proceeds from the sale of the dog friendly items are being donated to the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA).

Wendy adds: “We are animal lovers ourselves and we wanted to do something that was a bit more social good than just making profits. We cover the costs with our 50% and then the other 50% goes to charity.”

The menu has sparked a number of TikTok videos of dogs enjoying their chippy tea with their owners.

“We didn’t expect it to be so popular but customers love their dogs!” adds Wendy
