Fish & Chip Restaurant of the Year

Hot on the heels of the Fish & Chip Takeaway of the Year shortlist, the National Federation of Fish Friers has announced the 10 outlets vying for Fish & Chip Restaurant of the Year.

They are:

Whitby’s Restaurant, Doncaster, Yorkshire
The Cod’s Scallops, West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire
Malt and Anchor, Cirencester, Gloucestershire
The Chip Shed, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire
Noah’s, Bristol
Knights Fish Restaurant, Glastonbury, Somerset
Upstairs at No.1 Cromer, Cromer, Norfolk
Eric’s Fish and Chips, Hunstanton, Norfolk
Shoal Winchester, Winchester, Hampshire
Pier Point, Torquay, Devon

The shortlisted businesses have earned their place in the top 10 following an intense review by a panel of judges of their environmental standards, sustainability best practice methods, customer service and knowledge of the fish and chip industry.

They will now undergo further inspections, including mystery visits which will see the 10 scaled down to five. Crunch time will be on 28th February 2024, when the winner is announced at the awards ceremony at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel in London.

Awards organiser and president of the National Federation of Fish Friers Andrew Crook says the category has welcomed many fantastic entries. “While the challenges facing the fish and chip industry have been prominent in the headlines, the judges at the National Fish and Chip Awards are seeing how hard businesses are working to ensure the experience of coming into their restaurants remains second to none.

“We’re proud of how they are going above and beyond to continue serving this British classic and it’s an honour to be able to champion the entrants.”
