Steve Hartley and his wife Margaret bought their first fish shop 18 years ago near Leeds. Just two a half years later they sold it to buy Park Road Fisheries located in Bingley, West Yorkshire, where they have worked alongside each other ever since.
A traditional shop with a limited menu, 85% of its business is fish and chips along with the usual sausages, pies, scampi and chicken nuggets. Over the last few years, new additions have made it onto the menu including mozzarella sticks, halloumi, squid and various chicken products.
With the business growing and the maintenance costs of their nine-year-old range forever rising, Steve decided two years ago an upgrade was needed.
“We decided to go with MEFF after researching their product and visiting the site. We were very impressed with their product and quality of build,” he said.
“We have a high turnover shop and needed a range which could respond to our needs.”
The solution was a four pan Omega island range with a central chip box, built-in scrap box, two heated cabinets and built-in filtration. Even though it’s now two years old, Steve says the range looks as good and performs as well as it did when it was brand new with no maintenance costs incurred so far.
“The performance is as I imagined,” he adds. “It’s a high efficiency range that comes up to temperature very quickly. This has enabled us to provide a high quality product at high volumes, which goes to say has improved the efficiency and turnover of the business.”
Describing ME-FF as a pleasure to work with, Steve said it was a smooth informative process from the initial site visit to installation, adding: “As old hands we only needed a few hours training and were back up and running after two and a half days. The range was very easy to adapt to.”
