One of the North East’s most renowned fish and chip shops, Colmans of South Shields, is set to open an 80-seater restaurant inside Fenwick Newcastle. The restaurant, which will be located on the first floor of the iconic department store, will officially open its doors on March 20th.
Colmans, a fifth-generation family business, was approached by Fenwick to take over the space, marking an exciting collaboration between two well-established North East institutions.
Richard Ord Jnr, owner of Colmans Seafood Temple, comments: “There was a space available in one of the restaurants, and Fenwick approached us as they wanted to bring in another well-known local brand. It made perfect sense — two family businesses with deep roots in the region working together.”
Being invited to join Fenwick’s lineup of premium dining options was a proud moment for the Colmans team. Richard continues: “Fenwick is an institution in Newcastle so it’s an absolute honour to be part of it.
“It’s another step forward for Colmans, venturing into Newcastle city centre. We already have a huge Newcastle following so on the days that people maybe wouldn’t usually come to the coast, it gives them a more accessible option. At the moment, there’s not a dedicated fish and chip restaurant in Newcastle city centre, which is quite something for such a huge city.”
While traditional fish and chips will remain at the heart of the menu, Colmans will also introduce small plates inspired by classic chip shop sides, as well as grilled fish options catering to those looking for a lighter meal.
Located within Fenwick, the restaurant is expected to attract significant footfall from shoppers and food lovers. It will open Monday to Saturday from 11:30am to 6:30pm, and on Sundays from 11:30am to 4:30pm.
