Digital menus and new external signage created by BD Signs and BDigital mark the start of a new era for Millennium Fish Bar

Nirmail and Emma Singh, owners of Millennium Fish Bar in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, recently unveiled their latest shop in Upper Midway, complete with modern upgrades that include digital menu screens, a window monitor and new external signage. This marks their third shop in the area.

“We’ve been looking for a location in this area for a long time,” says Nirmail. “When we saw this shop, which had been closed for two years, we knew it had potential. The previous owner had built a very busy shop here, but after they passed away, the shop went downhill.”

The couple took over the premises in October 2024 and opened their doors to the public on 16th December. “We completely renovated it,” explains Nirmail. “New floors, ceiling, walls, frying range – every single bit was changed. It’s a modern shop now, both in how it looks and how it works with the latest technology.”

The refurbishment extended to the shopfront, bringing it in line with the look and feel of the pair’s other two shops. “All three now share the same branding,” adds Emma. “It’s important for us to have consistency and offer something fresh to the area.”

For this project, Nirmail turned to BD Signs & BDigital, a trusted partner he has worked with for over eight years. “BD Signs handled the signage and digital menus for our other shops, so we knew we could rely on them again,” he says.

Emma was reassured at a meeting when she was able to see the new look for the shop before any financial outlay. She comments: “We had a meeting in Nottingham where Barry showed us on a computer how the screens and signage would look. If we wanted any changes – colours, designs – they adjusted them before anything was made. It gave us confidence, especially when investing a lot of money.”

The project included eye-catching external signage and customised digital menu screens, which Nirmail prefers over static alternatives. “The digital menus are brilliant,” he says. “Markets fluctuate, prices go up and down, and with the screens, we can update prices in seconds. No more taking down boards or reprinting signs. Plus, the high quality photos of our food let customers see exactly what we offer, including our meal options.”

Since opening, the response from customers has been overwhelmingly positive. “People can’t believe how quickly we turned it around – it only took about three to four weeks, although we did work day and night” says Emma. “They’re amazed at how modern and inviting the shop looks now.”

Situated on the busy A511 main road between Leicester and Burton, Millennium Fish Bar is already attracting a steady stream of customers. Emma adds: “The lit-up signage outside is fantastic. It lets people know we’re here and open for business. It’s great to see the shop busy again.”
