Papa’s Fish & Chips chose Good Friday to open two new coastal takeaways.
The popular fish and chip chain launched a new branch in Bridlington, Yorkshire, and at the same time reopened the takeaway in Skegness, Lincolnshire, that closed late last year for refurbishment.
George Papadamou, who owns the business with his brother Dino, comments: “Our contractors were busy working around the clock to meet our deadline for Good Friday and we were really happy to achieve that. There were a couple of times on the Thursday night when we thought are we going to be able to open both but the team all pulled together.
“It was a big challenge we set ourselves, especially with it being the busiest day of the year for us, but our teams are really experienced and they live for that moment of those busy days. Our logic is that once you’ve done Good Friday everything seems easy! We were really excited to open in both locations and the team have hit the ground running.”
Describing Bridlington as a natural progression for Papa’s, bridging the gap between its sites in Scarborough and Whitby on the east coast while also being close to those in Hull, George adds: “So many of our really loyal guests who visit our restaurants in Hull and Scarborough also visit Bridlington at the weekend or during the summer and we were inundated with people asking when were we opening, even when we had no plans to open in Bridlington. It felt so natural and we are so pleased to be open there.”
With queues reported outside both takeaways for most of Good Friday, George says a high level of trade has been maintained, making him optimistic for the summer season when it’s hoped the 300-seater Skegness restaurant will also reopen.
The two new additions take Papa’s to nine locations with sites also in Cleethorpes and Blackpool. And more could be on the cards with George adding: ”We are always looking for new and exciting opportunities.”
