Customers to a central London chip shop got a surprise at lunchtime on Friday when they were served by acting legend Danny Dyer.
Danny a.k.a. ‘The Codfather’ jumped behind the range at Golden Union, just off Oxford Street, and donned a red apron to hand out fish coated in batter infused with Frank’s RedHot Sauce.
Part of the brand’s latest #TheCodfather campaign, the spicy surprise pop-up attracted hundreds of customers, who laughed and chatted as they posed for selfies with the actor, before tucking into free portions of fish and chips, with Danny jokingly telling customers in the queue: “Trust me, fish and chips with a glug of Frank’s RedHot is double naughty.”
Speaking at the surprise appearance, Danny Dyer commented: “Nothing beats a proper chippy tea – it’s a British classic we all know and love… but when you add Frank’s RedHot into the mix, blimey, it’s something else! I’ve always been a fan of Frank’s because it adds the perfect touch of flavour and heat without blowing your head off. I had a lot of fun introducing the Flager last year, so I’m buzzing to be back for round two as ‘The Codfather’ to show everyone how to kick their fish and chips up a notch. Trust me, it’s proper naughty!”

One customer who happened to stumble on the surprise during their usual Friday lunchtime chippy run also commented: “Best fish I’ve ever had!”
Amit Singh, UK marketing director at McCormick, said: “Elevating mealtimes with just the right balance of flavour and heat is at the heart of Frank’s RedHot sauce, which is why we are excited to introduce fish and chips with a delicious twist – and who better to give everyone a taste than ‘The Codfather’ himself! As a self-proclaimed Frank’s superfan, Danny’s infectious charisma brought so much joy and seeing the look on everyone’s faces when they took their first bite of ‘The Codfather’ approved Fish and Frank’s was brilliant, I certainly know what I’m having for dinner this evening!!”
