Top Fry, a friendly, community-focused fish and chip shop in the village of Beddau, Cardiff, is the winner of P100’s latest giveaway, receiving 10 boxes of premium palm oil.
Owners Pawandeep and Manvir Kaur moved to Wales in 2023 and bought the takeaway in 2024, a business previously run by Pawandeep’s uncle and already well-loved by the local community. Although completely new to the fish and chip industry, they brought enthusiasm, determination and a strong work ethic to their new venture. They were also supported by Pawandeep’s brother, who runs multiple fish and chip shops and played a key role in helping them get established. To meet the high standards expected by their customers, both Pawandeep and her husband completed frying courses, ensuring they could deliver quality from day one.
With a traditional menu of fish, chips, pies, sausages, fishcakes, complemented by popular options such as kebabs and chicken and lamb curry, the community has responded by welcoming the newcomers with open arms. “Everyone here is so kind. We are really grateful,” says Pawandeep. “They love the food and that means everything to us.”
Commenting on winning 10 boxes of P100, Pawandeep said: “When I saw our shop name, I was over the moon. With all the costs in the first two years, saving around £200 that week made a big difference.”

Although they use palm oil already, this was their first time trying P100 and the experience has been entirely positive. “The price is lower than the brand we were using, but the quality is the same,” explains Pawandeep. “I wouldn’t switch if the quality wasn’t good, but the food tastes the same and customers haven’t noticed any difference.”
The oil performed well in their two pans, both of which work seven days a week, lasting its usual two to three days with no odour, no colour differences and no impact on taste. “It’s a perfect oil,” she adds. “We’ll definitely order it again once we’ve used what we’ve won.”
The win comes just four months after Top Fry was named the Best Fish & Chip Shop in South Wales Central, voted for by locals as part of a competition led by Welsh Conservative Regional Senedd Member for South Wales Central, Joel James.
To move the business forward, Top Fry plans to introduce gluten free options to the menu in time for Christmas. “A lot of customers have been asking for gluten free and there doesn’t seem to be anyone else offering it in our area at the moment,” explains Pawandeep. “We will, of course, be using P100 in our third pan, which we will dedicate purely to gluten free. We look forward to seeing demand grow.”
