How did you get into the industry?
I sort of fell into it really. I was 18, had met my now husband Danny and we were living together when I left my job working for Norwich Union. Mark (my now father-in-law) very kindly offered me a job while I “looked for something better”. Seventeen years later, I’m still here! I never did find anything better!
What’s your favourite food?
I love pretty much all Asian food so that’s usually my go to. I love the fresh flavours and spices. But of course, I am very partial to a piece of battered haddock!
Is there a food you won’t eat?
Olives! I’ve always really wanted to like them but just do not like them one bit.
Where have you had the best fish and chips?
A couple of years ago we had a family holiday to Cornwall and had fish and chips on the beach. It wasn’t so much about the food but more about where we were and who I was with. It’s a very happy memory.
What side is a must with your fish and chips?
It depends on my mood on the day! Always lashings of salt and vinegar and then I’d be happy with mushy peas, curry sauce or tartare sauce! Or sometimes a bit of all of them!

If you could open a fish and chip shop anywhere, where would it be?
I love the idea of a beach front in the Caribbean but I bet the reality of working in that heat would soon change my mind. So maybe I’ll just stick to rainy old Yorkshire!
Do you have a favourite restaurant?
Having young children means we don’t get to eat at “nice” restaurants too often! But there is an excellent Thai restaurant in Selby that I absolutely love
What is your go-to drink?
A lovely cold glass of prosecco (or Champagne if it’s a special occasion!).
What dish reminds you most of your childhood?
Dad’s homemade lasagne. It was my favourite and I remember being very excited every time he made it. Not so much when he made corned beef hash though!
What is your guilty food pleasure?
Crisps and dip are my go to comfort food.
What’s been your weirdest food combination?
I recently visited a Christmas market and they had Sticky Toffee Pudding flavoured cheese! I tried a sample and ended up buying one as it was absolutely delicious. Sounds so wrong but it tasted so right!
What one piece of equipment would you love to purchase for your business?
The new systems from Kelsius for temperature recording and allergens look great so that’s something I’ll be having a look at next year for sure.
