A Scottish chippy has raised £1,500 for charity in its first year of launching a dog-friendly menu.

Cromars in St Andrews, Fife, offers beef sausages and ‘puppucinnos’ for £2, which it says provide the perfect doggie distraction while owners tuck into fish and chips.

The award-winning fish and chip shop has sold over 2,000 doggy suppers, raising £1,500 for the Scottish SPCA.

Catering for four-legged friends has proved so successful that Cromars is giving pups even more to drool over with two new menu items: nutritious sardines, full of essential fatty acids and proteins, and homemade doggy biscuits. Cromars continues to pledge 50% of its ongoing sales to the SSPCA.

Wendy Napthine-Frame, owner of Cromars, said: “As a nation of dog lovers, we know how much people cherish their four-legged friends as part of the family, I have three dogs myself! St Andrews is a fantastic destination for dog owners, especially in Spring and Summer, when visitors flock to enjoy the town’s stunning beaches and countryside with their pups.

“Cromars has always been a popular stop after a seaside stroll, and we’re delighted that our doggy menu has been such a hit – not only giving pups a special treat but also raising £1,500 for the Scottish SPCA in just a year.”

In the UK, there are approximately 13.5 million dogs as pets, equating to 36% of households owning a dog. Of those with man’s best friend living under their roofs, 83% of people say they feel guilty leaving their dog behind when they go on holiday, with 67% of individuals planning their breaks around their dog.
