A Kent fish and chip shop has teamed up with luxury department store Fortnum & Mason to bring a taste of London to the seaside.
For the month of July, Pete’s Fish Factory in Margate is hosting Fortnum-On-Sea where it will be serving a one-of-a-kind menu that combines fish and chips with ingredients from Fortnum’s iconic flagship Piccadilly store.
The menu feature three new additions: The Bait & Barley – Peter’s fish in Fortnum’s Kentish India Pale Ale batter (£7.50) – as well as two lighter options: The Dip & Chips – Fortnum’s legendary 181 Sauce with chips (£1.70), and The Battered Sausage – Fortnum’s Dingley Dell pork sausage in crisp batter with 181 Sauce (£3.50). These can be enjoyed with Sip Me Quick! Fortnum’s Sparkling Tea and Fortnum’s Rose Sparkling Tea (0% ABV), £19.95/75cl bottle, or Fortnum’s Royal Blend Iced Tea, £3.50 per can.

Peter’s Fish Factory is a family-run business opened in 1984 by Peter Curtis, whose son and grandson now work alongside him. Peter said: “I found something I loved doing in 1967 and that has not changed. I think people appreciate tradition and quality – and that is what we’ll continue to offer, no matter what changes around us.”
Commenting on the collaboration, Peter continued: “We are over the moon to be partnering with Fortnum & Mason – I couldn’t quite believe it when we first got the call! We’ve been serving up traditional fish and chips to Margate locals and visitors for over 4 decades, so we are delighted to share it with Fortnum’s this summer.
I think their 181 Sauce is going to be a hit with our customers – all the staff loved it. And personally, I reckon the Sparkling Tea will be a crowd favourite – it’s the perfect accompaniment to fish and chips on a sunny seaside day.”
As well as the menu, the look and feel of Fortnum’s-On-Sea will also bring a splash of Piccadilly to the seafront. Fortnum’s signature Eau de Nil hue will complement Peter’s classic seaside branding, with gingham café curtains, bespoke window graphics, and fish and chips served in Fortnum’s illustrated greaseproof paper. All chip cones will also be turned Eau de Nil for the month.
