Unsung Hero

Age: 34

Position: Manager

Nominated by owner Kelly Barnes, who says: “Tracy has been with me now for seven years. She has dedicated her time with us to understanding the business, she has had a lot to deal with over the last few years, different managers not fulfilling their potential and not being able to step into the role herself due to being dedicated to her family. Tracy made a huge change last year and became a full-time manager at Krispies and all I can say is, WOW, what a change she has bought! I cannot praise her enough for her dedication, passion and understanding of what is required. As we say time and time again ‘she gets the brief!’

“Tracy is tenacious, kind and resilient, all strong qualities of someone who is a great manager. Not only this though, Tracy has been a shoulder to lean on when things for me personally have been tough this year, and that has been a big ask of her. She hasn’t once complained, and the level of trust we have built is something that I believe will grow as the business adapts and evolves.”

How long have you worked at Krispies?

For six years. I first worked at Krispies when I was 15 years old for about six months, so I have known Tim and Kelly for many years. Fourteen years later, I was in Krispies getting some food for my children – they love Krispies so we always got our food there – Kelly was working that day, we got talking about work and the rest is history. I’ve never looked back since.

What are your responsibilities?

I support Tim and Kelly by ordering stock, organising staffing levels, making sure the shop is running smoothly and to the best of its ability, making sure the food is great quality and the staff are providing great customer service, to making sure the shop is clean and tidy, boosting staff moral and being there if they need support. I am primarily a frier, but you can occasionally see me making an appearance front-of-house serving customers.

What is your favourite part of the job?

The team. It’s so nice to be part of a family-run business. How everyone supports one another, we are there for the good days and the bad. To be part of an award-winning fish and chip shop is priceless.

What is your least favourite part of the job?

To be honest, I haven’t got one. It’s nice to enjoy coming to work everyday.

What is it you like about working at Krispies?

The challenge it gives me, I like to solve problems when they arise. I have learnt a lot about myself in the last six years and I’m stronger than I thought I was. It’s nice to work somewhere where the bosses offer so much support. I love interacting with the customers, knowing I’ve cooked and served great quality food.

How do you feel about being nominated as an Unsung Hero?

So grateful but overwhelmed at the same time. I don’t think I’ve done anything to deserve this nomination, I’ve just been me.
