In response to an increased demand to educate on gas safety guidelines and to help drive standards in the mobile and outside catering industry, the Nationwide Caterers Association (NCASS) has launched an online course, “Safe Use of LPG in Mobile and Outside Catering”.

It forms part of the association’s work to improve safety standards in the industry after a series of serious accidents has left food professionals in need of hospital treatment.

Designed to equip caterers with essential knowledge and practical skills to ensure the safe handling, storage, and usage of LPG, participants that successfully complete the course will be awarded a City & Guilds certification. The course includes:

• Comprehensive safety guidelines

• The science behind the safety

• Proper handling and storage techniques including the transportation and siting of cylinders

• Emergency preparedness including fire reduction measures and firefighting equipment

Fiona West, NCASS environmental health specialist, said: “The Safe Use of LPG course and the dedicated workshops aim to fill the knowledge gap and enhance awareness about the safe utilisation of LPG in mobile and outside catering operations. Safety is our top priority and education is key, which is why we’re dedicated to empowering individuals within the industry and providing them with the necessary skills to ensure a secure working environment and improve standards with the overall use of LPG.”

The online course can be accessed through www.ncasstraining.co.uk with NCASS members offered a discount on the course fee. For more information call 0300 124 6866 or e-mail info@ncass.org.uk.
