Fish and chips wholesaler Henry Colbeck has pledged its support for National Fish & Chip Day and encourages shops across the UK to do the same

Founded in 1893, Tyne & Wear-based wholesaler Henry Colbeck is not only proud to be celebrating its 130th year in business, but also winning Supplier of the Year at the National Fish & Chip Awards 2023.

Knowing that 2023 will prove challenging for many of its customers, Henry Colbeck is working together with its Q Partnership colleagues at Friars Pride and V A Whitley to invest even further into the industry and to promote our national dish by becoming joint headline sponsors with Middletons for National Fish & Chip Day on Friday 2nd June.

Commenting on its involvement, Georgina Colbeck, marketing director at Henry Colbeck, says: “Investing in the day means that NEODA has more resources to deliver more activity, which in turn generates more positive PR. Did you know that National Fish & Chip Day delivered £1,220,000 of coverage for the fish and chip industry in 2022 alone?”

NEODA not only helps the edible oils industry to maintain good practices and improve standards, but behind the scenes the team, headed up by the tirelessly enthusiastic Lynda Simmons, continues to deliver a National Fish & Chip Day that gets better and increases its coverage every year.

Georgina adds: “We have always sponsored National Fish and Chip Day because we believe a national awareness day for our industry is critical. We want the awareness that’s generated to reinforce the great things we know about fish and chips to everyone – and especially the younger generation of consumers.”

As well as sponsoring, Henry Colbeck has helped NEODA over the years run its roadshows and provide free products and packaging, as well as provide space at its annual exhibitions to promote the event and profile and sell merchandise.

Being a wholesaler, it has also used its distribution team to deliver free National Fish & Chip Day posters and featured competitions in its What’s Hot! magazine. It always makes sure the team is treated to fish and chips on the day too!

Working with its partner sponsors this year, Henry Colbeck is delighted to ring the changes in the colour of the merchandise, with caps and aprons now available in yellow, red, blue and green. Georgina Colbeck has been promoting the new range at this spring’s exhibitions and even wore her ‘lucky pinny’ to the National Fish & Chip Awards!

Win £1,000 tech package

Henry Colbeck is supporting a national consumer promotion this year where one lucky chip shop customer could win a £1,000 tech package. It will be issuing free posters in April and May – so every shop can get involved for free – and customers enter by scanning the barcode.

Any shops with ideas on how Henry Colbeck and the Q Partnership can help use National Fish & Chip Day to drive sales into their businesses are urged to get in touch with Georgina on Georgina.colbeck@colbeck.co.uk

If you’d like to meet Lynda Simmons and discuss how you can get involved in National Fish & Chip Day this year, pick up a free poster or buy some merch, then come along to our What’s Cooking? exhibition in Harrogate on Sunday March 26th 2023. You can even get a photo of yourself in the giant Fish & Chip Day deckchair!
