A food truck on the Isle of Man is selling insurance policies for £1 to protect customers against seagulls stealing their chips.
Hawkins BBQ, which travels around the island selling burgers, melts and loaded fries, announced the initiative after claiming locals were left traumatised by the island’s “enthusiastic” seagulls targeting their takeaways.
The Manx Seagull Insurance, said to be a first on the island, gives customers a no-quibble replacement meal on the house should seagulls swoop down and attack.
All proceeds are being donated to Manx Wildlife Trust, a local charity that protects the island’s wildlife.

In a Facebook post the business said: “I think it’s fair to say that many on the island have had one or two (traumatic) experiences with the islands enthusiastic Seagulls – whether it’s being swooped on walking down Strand Street or attacked eating ice cream/gelato, we might have something for you!
“Introducing the Islands first Manx Seagull Insurance! We recently saw the idea flourish across so we decided it’s a must for foodies here!
“Starting today, you can now purchase “Seagull insurance” for only £1, which means you get the replacement meal on the house.”
