Age: 18
Job title: Server/frier
Nominated by shop owner Murray Morrison, who says: “I employed Keira as a young 15-year-old counter assistant three years ago. Very quickly it became evident that she was a bubbly character, full of confidence and very capable with the customers. Basically a happy, smiley face. You only get one gear with Keira and that’s top gear. She bounces into every shift dancing and singing and raises the whole atmosphere of the shop. She has been trained in how to fry and is an excellent young frier. She knows the shop inside out and is my go to when I forget my shopping list. That’s why I’ve nominated her as my unsung hero…. one for the future.
How long have you worked at Garioch Fish Bar?
I’ve been part of the Garioch team for over three years now. A friend who used to work here recommended I apply so I reached out through their Facebook page and was invited for an interview. I started as a server and gradually moved up to lead server with additional training in frying, a journey I hadn’t anticipated lasting this long.
What are your responsibilities?
My main responsibilities involve staff management, creating weekly schedules, addressing customer concerns, managing the shop when Murray and his son are not there, and engaging with the community and making sure that everything runs smoothly.

What’s your favourite part of the job?
The best part of working at the chip shop is the constant interaction with the community. The joy of brightening people’s days and, of course, eating the food, particularly the chicken nuggets! Building memories and friendships within our little team is the best part.
What’s your least favourite part of the job?
Thankfully, there aren’t many downsides to the job, but if I had to pick one, it would be me smelling of the chipper when I leave.
What is it that you like about working at Garioch Fish Bar?
Being a family-run business means that my hard work never goes amiss and I’m always appreciated. Laughs with my boss and his son adds to the enjoyable work environment. Every shift begins with positive energy making Garioch a fantastic place to work.
How does it feel to be an Unsung Hero?
It feels so rewarding. It shows that I am appreciated for all the hard work that I do and that it doesn’t go unnoticed. From working my way up to server and then to frier, it’s so lovely to get recognised. It motivates me to continue to give my best every day. at work.
