Jayde, Farnhams Unsung Hero

Age: 21

Job: Server/frier

Nominated by: Sian Bevan, manager at Farnham’s, who says: “I am nominating Jayde for many reasons. I would love her to have this recognition. Jayde started as a casual worker, fitting in shifts alongside her studies. She quickly grew into a confident member of the serving team and over time learnt other skills around the shop which resulted in training her to be a frier. Jayde is an important team member: dependable, adaptable and enthusiastic. It’s really important and quite rare to have staff like Jayde. She works hard at both our shops they wouldn’t be the same without her. I hope she knows how much we value her.

How long have you worked at Farnham’s?

I joined Farnham’s nearly four years ago. I was looking for a job and one of my friends who was working there recommended I apply. I was a bit hesitant at first, being my first job, but everyone was so lovely and I already knew a few of the girls so it made it easier.

What are your responsibilities?

My responsibilities include making sure our customers have a delightful experience and providing high quality food as well as helping other serving staff when any problems arise. During the summer I will be supervising at our Fontygary shop where I will be running shifts and making sure all our staff have what they need for each shift. Duties include making sure everything is prepared ready for the day ahead, doing all the opening and closing checks, paperwork, filtering pans and making sure everything is turned off and secure.
During my kitchen prep shifts, I am busy making curry and different sauces including homemade bolognese and chilli.

What is your favourite part of the job?

Seeing our regular customers, having a chat with them and laughing with them. It brings a bit of joy to the job.

What is your least favourite part of the job?

I wouldn’t say that there’s anything I don’t like about this job, but now and again there are unexpected things that happen, such as a power cut which is extremely frustrating when you have a shop full of hungry customers!

What is it that you like about working at Farnham’s?

Everyone is so amazing. During quiet periods we can laugh with each other while doing TikTok trends. We all help each other out as a team and can rely on one another especially if we’re having a bad day.

How do you feel about being nominated as an Unsung Hero?

I am so happy. For the past 4 years, I have worked so hard to get where I am and it’s amazing that it has paid off.
