Ingredients supplier Ceres has launched 14 online calculators designed to help fish and chip shops better understand their costs and maximise profitability. 

The tools cover a wide range of essential costs, for example, operators can work out their price per fillet of fish, potato peeling yield, and the yield loss between raw chips and fried chips. Broader business calculators tackle areas such as gross profit, delivery aggregator fees and food cost-to-turnover ratios. 

Additionally, Ceres has developed product-specific calculators to work out the yield, cost and profit using its Fishcake Mix, Curry Sauce and Gravy Mix, while a simple weight conversion enables businesses to quickly switch between ounces, grams, pounds, and kilograms, ensuring accurate measurements. 

Accessible free of charge, these calculators require users to log in to the Ceres website. With more tools set to be added, Ceres says it hopes to empower businesses with data-driven insights, enabling them to optimise costs and protect their margins in an increasingly competitive market.

Stelios Theocharous, managing director at Ceres, adds: “”Knowing your costs is a bedrock of running a business but doing the maths – and knowing you’ve done it right – can be a daunting prospect for some operators. With these calculators we’ve made it really easy for everyone. Also, something we see a lot is operators comparing their business to others, but not everyone has the same costs or overheads. These calculators will help shop owners understanding and focus on the costs of their business.”
