London chippy goes vegan only

A popular East London fish and chip shop is reopening next month with a completely vegan offering.

Sutton and Sons’ Hackney branch is moving a few doors down the road, allowing its original site to serve up a completely plant-based menu as of 4th October.

The chippy first started serving vegan food at its Stoke Newington branch in March following the successful trial of various different options during Veganuary.

Owner Danny Sutton has developed his own unique version of the customer favourite, made from banana blossom marinated in seaweed, which he believes gives a taste closer to the original dish. As well as plant-based fish and chips, Sutton & Sons Vegan will offer a prawn cocktail, scampi, pies, sausages and burgers.

Sutton & Sons has been serving fish and chips for over 20 years and operates a fishmongers as well as a fourth fish and chip shop in Islington.

The Hackney site is thought to be the first vegan only fish and chip shop in London.
