KeCo Foodservice Packaging has been recognised with the international accreditation ISO14001 for putting environmental responsibility at the heart of its business.
Producing bespoke and off-the-shelf takeaway packaging for the food-to-go markets, the Cambridgeshire-based manufacturer not only uses recycled and recyclable materials in its products wherever possible, it also takes steps to ensure the vast majority of waste materials used in the manufacturing process is recycled.
For example, it uses FSC and PEFC approved paper material sourced from ethically responsible manufacturers but also ensures every product is designed in such a way to create minimum waste.
What’s more, any bi-products, such as paperboard and waste board, are collected for local recycling via Casepak’s complete on-site waste extraction solution – a significant investment by KeCo - while redundant items, such as ink and varnish containers, pallets and pallet wrap, are also recycled.
Jamie Kearns, operations director, KeCo Foodservice Packaging, comments: “As a leading manufacturer of carton board to the UK foodservice and hospitality markets, we recognise the perceived effect packaging manufacturing has on the world we live in. With consumer attitudes ever-changing and awareness of the environment hugely topical, the demands of our customers change; and so we acknowledge how environmental responsibility affects the entire supply chain. We’re committed to placing the environment at the top of our business agenda, designing our factory setup with efficiency in sustainability in mind and choosing to manufacture products using environmentally friendly processes, taking into account their entire lifecycle – from concept, to manufacture and beyond.”
He adds: We are committed to understanding the importance of the environmental impact of our products, and are proud to have successfully achieved ISO14001 accreditation – an internationally recognised quality standard which specifically acknowledges commitment to environmental best practice.”
