Fish and chips has ranked as the third most Instagrammed dish over the past 12 months, according to a recent survey.
Holiday letting specialists Stay In Cornwall
monitored conversations on the social media site over the past year to discover the top ten popular UK foods.
Fish and chips was beaten to the top spot only by curry, which had over half a million posts uploaded over the past year, followed by the controversial avocado which had a quarter of a million.
Fish and chips was third with over 63,000 posts, beating the traditional Sunday roast, the Yorkshire pudding, the cream tea and the sausage roll.
The chip butty was also up there in 8th place with almost 10,000 uploads.
When it came to where in the country the most posts were coming from, those living in Penzance were revealed to be the biggest Instagrammers of fish and chips, uploading posts of the dish almost 19,000 times.
James Starkey, marketing director at Stay in Cornwall, comments: “It may come as no surprise that Brits love a curry, but we were surprised at how much we are loving avocados, with it being named as the UK’s most popular food.
"However, it seems each area of the UK has their favourite food, from Penzance loving fish and chips and Ayr residents preferring a sausage roll – there are so many cuisines for Brits to get their teeth into!”
