Rockfish Brixham closed as suspected bomb found

Rockfish in Brixham, Devon, one of six outlets owned by Mitch Tonks, was forced to close yesterday after what was thought to be an unexploded bomb was discovered by a local trawler.

The restaurant and takeaway, which directly overlooks Brixham harbour, was due to open at 9.30am but remained closed until 6pm.

The area was sealed off after a fisherman picked up the suspected unexploded bomb in his trawler net on Sunday morning. The device was brought onto shore where the Royal Navy’s bomb disposal team discovered it to be the shell of a 100-pound German bomb which was filled with concrete.

It is believed that people used to use shells as doorstops or memorabilia and dispose of them into the sea.
