Nominated by Bonny Ritchie, owner, Simpsons Fish & Chips, who says: “Stephan has been with us a long time now and has grown up in the business. He started when he was 16 as a counter assistant and now is a fully trained manager and head frier in Stroud. Stephan is so dedicated to Simpsons, he even has a tattoo of our logo! He’s also put his focus on entering Young Fish Frier of the Year, which shows a passion for the industry as well as our business.

How long have you worked at Simpsons?
Funny story, my mum and Bonny were on a night out together and the next thing I knew I was working the following Saturday at 9am mopping floors. Five years later and I’m still mopping floors! Ha ha!

What are your responsibilities?  
Day-to-day I set up the Stroud branch, so anything from potato prep to cutting fish to ordering and frying

What’s your favourite part of the job?
My favourite part of my job is being able to interact with customers. Because the shop is laid out so they can see me cooking, I can be chatting to them while their food fries and telling them about our products.



What's your least favourite part of the job? 
Probably cleaning the extraction sump!

What is it that you like about working at Simpsons? 
The fact that even though we’re relaxed, we take our jobs very seriously. I really enjoy the family atmosphere.

How do you feel about being nominated as an unsung hero? 
I’m humbled that my managers and bosses have nominated me as an Unsung Hero, but I believe that all the rest of my team would deserve it on any other day of the week. We’ve all worked like crazy to get our Stroud shop running and it’s been a fantastic year for the business and the team. Their dedication makes me proud to lead them.
