Fish & chips a New Year favourite as Deliveroo orders surge



On-demand food delivery service Deliveroo has reported a 48% surge in orders this New Year's day as customers reached for their phones and iPads to have food brought to their door.


And while customers took advantage of the full range of cuisine at their fingertips, it has been revealed that hungry revellers in Scotland found a particular fondness for haddock and chips from Old Salty’s in Glasgow, which was the most popular dish ordered on the turn of the year.

Fish and chips also topped the list for Mancunians, with cod and chips from Fosters Fish & Chips the most ordered dish via the site on New Year’s day.

Joe Groves at Deliveroo said: “New Year’s day is always massive for us as turkey sandwiches and mulled wine become a ghost of Christmas past and people turn to Deliveroo for New Year’s nourishment. Great to see, regardless of the latest New Year’s resolutions, people still love fish and chips.”

Deliveroo currently works with over 30,000 UK restaurants and approximately 30,000 riders.
