A pensioner from Bolton has won a year’s worth of chippy teas after being crowned Holland’s Pies’ winning Vanoke singing star.
Jim Berry, 65 from West Houghton, won the singing contest following an eight week search of the North West which saw customers sing a rendition of their favourite song while grabbing a Holland’s Pie from their local chippy or special Holland’s Pie’s vans.
Jim’s rendition of Bob Williamson’s song Holland’s Meat Pies clinched the title at the final sing off at comedy-hot spot the Frog & Bucket in Manchester on Thursday.
Comedian Justin Moorhouse, who launched the competition for Holland’s Pies, hosted the evening and everyone was treated to a free Holland’s Deep Fill pie with a side of mushy peas!
Neil Billingsley, commercial director at Holland’s Pies, said: “Congratulations to Jim, we were blown away by the talent that our finalists brought to the stage at the final. We had a pietastic evening and we want to thank everyone who entered.”
Justin Moorhouse, added: “As the official Vanoke ambassador, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed helping Holland’s Pies find a Pie Star in the North West, it’s been great fun. I’ve grown up eating their pies and puds in my local chippy, so I really hope Jim enjoys his year’s supply of Deep Filled Pies.”
Holland’s bakes over 1.2million pies, pastries and puds a week and supplies daily to over 1,000 chippies across the North West.
Its Deep Fill Pies are available in five flavours – Lancashire, cheese & onion, peppered steak, steak & kidney, potato & meat, with the latest addition, steak & kidney pudding.
