Voting opens for British Takeaway Awards



Voting has opened for the British Takeaway Awards 2017, run in association with Just Eat, and fish and chip shops are being encouraged to get involved.


Up for grabs is the regional title of the Best Takeaway, which is nominated by customers and which comes with a £1,000 prize and free sign up to Just Eat. One regional winner will then go on to be awarded Best Takeaway in Britain and receive a further cheque for £5,000.

To help drive votes for the regional award, takeaway restaurants can sign up and download a voting pack on the British Takeaway Awards website which includes posters, flyers and voting cards.

In addition to a public vote, winners will be determined based on a submission from finalists explaining why they deserve to win and a mystery shop.

There are two further categories which are nominated by restaurant owners themselves - Best Delivery Driver and Best Chef in Britain awards. These also come with £1,000 prize and free sign up to Just Eat.

Finalists for the Best Takeaway Chef award will be invited to London to cook their signature dish for an expert judging panel, which includes celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott and businesswoman and former  BBC2 Dragon’s Den star, Sarah Willingham.

And finally a brand new Contribution to the Takeaway Industry Award has been introduced to recognise individuals who champion the industry and are actively leading the way to improve the  takeaway sector  for everyone.

Graham Corfield, UK managing director of Just Eat, partners of the British Takeaway Awards, said: “In the UK we spend over £9.9bn on takeaway food and it is these small, often family-run businesses, that are the powerhouse of the industry and behind so much of the UK’s economic growth.  All across Britain are local favourites that offer fantastic food and service, are constantly innovating and make amazing contributions to their local community.  We want the celebrate and recognise these unsung superstars on a national scale, which they deserve.”

Voting closes on midnight on Sunday 1st October with the awards ceremony taking place on Monday 27th of November at The Savoy in London.
