Black Garlic Ketchup is a star at Great Taste Awards



A brand new Black Garlic Ketchup has received one star at this year’s Great Taste Awards.


The sauce, launched by Hawkshead Relish, took over a year to perfect. Using black garlic, which is cooked in a low heat and high humidity for over 45 days, the garlic becomes black, sticky and sweet with a rich savoury umami flavour. It is then blended with tomatoes, onions, herbs and spices to create a rich dark sauce perfect for serving with fish, steak and sausages.

Black Garlic Ketchup is free from gluten, nuts, preservatives, colourings and artificial flavourings and is made by hand using traditional open pans.

It is available in 250ml bottles priced at £4.99 as well as 1litre foodservice bottles at £17.93.

The Great Taste Awards are organised by the Guild of Fine Food and the logo is widely acknowledged as the benchmark for fine food and drink.

Over 12,000 products were entered into the awards with only 165 foods achieving the highest and most coveted three stars, 1,011 foods grabbing 2 stars and 3,171 a 1 star.
