Barland Shopfitters revives Sullivans' Beverley shop

Located on a high street in Beverley town centre, East Yorkshire, Sullivans Fish & Chips has undergone regular updates every few years since the Sullivan family took it over in 1995. However, launching a second venture running a nearby log cabin park meant the owners were preoccupied and the takeaway began to suffer, getting tired and dated, and eventually trade began to falter.

In December last year, son John decided it was time to take back the reins and invest in a complete overhaul of the takeaway, giving it a new look and a new lease of life.

“It’s always been a very good shop but it started to lose money and I knew it wasn’t because of the food,” explains John. “I’ve done bits of work myself over the years but this time I wanted to do it properly as I knew I had to keep up with the times. I wanted something that was modern but at the same time was quite traditional as we are a traditional shop. The family approached Barland Shopfitters who showed us pictures of what they could do and we really liked it.”

Within just three and a half weeks, Barland Shopfitters had taken the chippy back to brickwork and carried out a complete refit of the shop. A new pale green shopfront and matching wall tiles inside, downlighters over the counter and backlit menu boards have created a bright, clean and modern space, while a new three pan Florigo island range and till system ensure customers are served quickly and efficiently.

John comments: “Customers are loving it, they come in and say it looks great as we've put in a Grade II lsited shopfront. And the staff equally like it, it’s a nice environment to work in, and customers are noticing how much friendlier and happier the staff are too. It’s a lot lighter and brighter, and customers can see everything that’s going on.”

He adds: “Before the refurbishment, the shop was beginning to lose money and I knew it just needed bringing up to date. We’ve done that and now takings are up again, by about £1,000 a week and that’s without any advertising.”

John was so pleased with the end result, he’s enlisted Barland Shopfitters to completely refurbish its nearby Hornsea outlet - a 126 seater restaurant and takeaway.
