Unsung hero..

Name:
Tracey Donoghue

Job title: Manager

At: The Elite Fish & Chip Company, Lincoln

Age: 50

Nominated by:
Adrian Tweedale, owner of The Elite Fish & Chip Company, who says: “In terms of our staff and their progress with us, Tracey is one of our crowning achievements and is the person who we are most proud of outside of the family.

“Again and again, Tracey is one of our most inspiring staff we have. We consider all our members of staff to be part of the Elite family, but Tracey has proven over the years that she is indispensable. From starting with us part time back in 1998, she has worked her way up to being a capable, hard-working manager with a passion for customer service. Her loyalty is to be commended, but her natural affinity with regular customers is one of the main reasons we see so much repeat trade as they return week after week.”

How long have you worked at The Elite Fish & Chip Company?
I’ve worked at the Elite’s Tritton Road restaurant for nearly 20 years. I started off at just six hours a week on the takeaway before taking on more shifts in the restaurant.

In 2002, Adrian sat me down, at table 29 I remember, and asked me to become a manager. It was a total surprise. I knew I was a valued member of staff, but I had no idea that Adrian and his wife Donna believed in me that much. I was very touched and didn’t have to think long before accepting. I still love every minute I’m here.

What are your responsibilities?
I’m responsible for a team of brilliant serving staff delivering our fantastic food to a great bunch of customers. Being in charge of a shift is a challenge I look forward to every day and to see customers returning every week, year after year, is what we aim for.

What’s your favourite part of the job?
Getting to know the customers and being a part of their lives – however small. Because my shifts vary, I get to meet so many different people. I can go for ages without seeing them, but still recognise them and what they like to order.

What's your least favourite part of the job?
I don’t think there is a part I don’t like. It’s a pleasure being here every day and you can’t say that for every job!

What is it about working at The Elite that you like?
I love to see my regular customers coming in each week and getting to know people better over the years. I also work with a great team that’s motivated and wants to deliver the high level of customer service that I do.

How do you feel about being nominated as an unsung hero?
I feel humble, to work for such a focused family such as the Tweedales is great. They know exactly what they are doing, but remain approachable. They’ve helped me through so much, in my personal life as well as developing me as a manager.
