Scandia Foods (UK) has launched what it believes is the first range of gluten and wheat free fish cakes specifically for the fish and chip shop sector.
Introduced to meet the increasing demand for free-from foods, the MSC approved Ocean Crown Fish Cakes have a homemade look and are said to contain over twice the fish content of the average fish cake. They are made using 30% silver smelt and 30% white fish, with a salmon variety also available made using 30% silver smelt and 30% salmon. Both are gently fried in rapeseed oil to give a light and healthy product.
Ideal for busy shops, the fish cakes can be fried, reheated in the oven or microwave or, alternatively, they can be served cold.
“Our Ocean Crown Fish Cakes are just weeks away from obtaining fully accredited Coeliac UK approval,” explains Scandia Foods chief executive officer, Lisa West.
“With diagnosed cases of Coeliac Disease on the increase and a growing number of people choosing to cut out wheat and gluten voluntarily from their diets, fish and chip shop owners must ensure that there are quality options for these customers on the menu if they are not to miss out on potential sales. We are proud to be offering the first gluten and wheat free fish cakes to this sector.”
Ocean Crown Fish Cakes are available in 30x65g and 4x95g sizes with the salmon variety available in 4x95g.
