Wholesale food distributor 3663 has opened a new, purpose-built depot for its Swithenbank Fresh & Fine Foods specialist business, to support growing customer demand in the South East region.
The chilled storage and distribution facility in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, increases the business’s capacity to supply fresh meat, produce and fine foods to the South East area three-fold. In particular, it also allows Swithenbank to encompass the rapid expansion of fresh meat, which is seeing phenomenal growth.
With a range of the highest quality control technologies, nine loading bays and thirty vehicle docks, the new depot is said to offer the best storage and handling facilities for fresh and chilled products, while its location offers easy access to the M25 motorway and central London.
Andrew Tiplady, managing director of Swithenbank, said: “The desire for customers to maximise purchasing by consolidation is growing. To accommodate this, our new depot will be a multi-temperature facility, meaning customers need only place one order, receive one delivery and one invoice, yet still have the specialist skills at hand. This ‘consolidated’ approach is also more sustainable, with fewer food miles being accrued.
“New facilities, technologies and controls at the depot will also ensure consistency and accuracy of supply for our customers – so that products reach them in the highest quality, every time.”
