Glastonbury commits to affordable food with £5 initiative


With tomorrow marking the start of Glastonbury Festival at Worthy Farm, Somerset, organisers have once again launched a ‘Food For A Fiver’ initiative.

Designed to tackle over-inflated prices and to give festival go-ers more choice, over 300 of the 500 food traders will be taking part in the scheme.

£5 options could include a breakfast roll and a drink, a £5 main course or a meal deal of two coffee and two cakes. Participating traders will display a Food for a Fiver sticker and information on their menu board.

The choices include a variety of world cuisine from Vietnamese, Italian, Indian, Caribbean and Turkish to pies, burgers and a good old fashioned bacon sandwich. There will also be a large number of vegetarian and vegan stalls with many traders also catering for specific dietary requirements.

One food trader that has shown the most progress in improving their sustainability over the year will be selected to win the Festival’s Sustainable Traders Award.
