York chippy wins regional business award

A North Yorkshire chippy has won a regional award in recognition of its high standards of customer service.

Scotts Fish and Chips, which has outlets in Helmsley and Bilbrough, was named Retail, Tourism & Leisure Business of the Year at The Press Business Awards.

Beating two other regional businesses to the title – a visitor attractions operator and a York-based hotel – Scotts was assessed on its interaction with customers, product knowledge and quality, value for money and innovative marketing ideas.

Scotts managing director Tony Webster said: “When we saw whom we had been shortlisted against, we didn’t think we stood a chance of winning this award.

“Being shortlisted in this category was an accolade in itself – but to pip both Continuum Attractions and The Principal York to the post was simply unbelievable.

“It was a fantastic evening and winning was the icing on the cake. We were on cloud none for the rest of the night and are only just coming down.”

The award follows a successful 18 months for the chippy which has achieved a TripAdvisor International Excellency Award for the fifth year running, gained gluten free accreditation from Coeliac UK and withheld the NFFF Quality Award.

Tony adds: “We would have none of these awards if it wasn’t for the superb teams at Helmsley and Bilbrough, and this is again a tribute to their hard work and dedication.

“We will not be resting on our laurels, but will be working incredibly hard to ensure we live up to this latest honour.”
