Our Plaice's James Houlston moves to Florigo



Dutch range manufacturer Florigo has appointed James 
Houlston as area sales manager for the South East.

The 24-year-old, who started his career in fish and chips at Our Plaice in Hagley, Worcestershire, 10 years ago, has switched sides of the counter to help push the Florigo name and assist friers in moving their businesses forward.

Responsible for an area that stretches from the top of the Norfolk coast down to Surrey and London, James is looking forward to helping shops make their next range purchase. He comments: “Florigo is one of the leading range manufacturers in the industry, its ranges are so advanced and the company is continually wanting to move forward, so it’s great to be working with them. Being young and enthusiastic myself, I hope I can bring some great ideas to the table too.”

Working his way up from potato boy at aged 14, James advanced to a full-time frier at the Hagley shop and five years ago was appointed manager, a role that entailed looking after a second shop in nearby Kidderminster as well as the business’s mobile chip van. James has been a regular entrant in the Drywite Young Fish Frier of the Year Award where he came third in the country last year.

Describing the move to Florigo as the next step in his career, James is keen to use the knowledge he has gained over the last 10 years. He adds: “Instead of being a frier, I’m here now to help friers and that’s where I think I have the advantage. I can speak to the frier as a frier rather than just as a salesman, I know and understand what their issues are and I can find a solution to solve them.”
