Lincolnshire shop serving up cut price chips



A Lincolnshire fish and chip shop is selling portions of chips for just 18p for the month of January.


George's Fish Bar in Bourne is running the special offer as a way of thanking customers for their business during 2017. The slashed price chips are a snip compared to the usual £1.85 and are available when a hot item is purchased.

Owner George Georgio comments: “I’ve always been of the opinion you have to give back to get and this is a way of saying thank you to my customers for supporting us over the past year. Okay, so I might not make a profit one month of the year, but the way I see it is that I’ll get a 10% increase in trade across the other 11 months, which is good for me.

“Plus, January is a difficult month for many, we’re a local community shop and people appreciate this kind of thing. It gives people an incentive to come back.”



With the offer pushing the chippy to full capacity, George has a Fado stand-alone fryer on loan from KFE to help get them through.

George comments: “We have a four pan Kiremko island range but during our peak times we need the extra pan. The Fado unit is a great piece of kit, it's a meter long pan so can cook six baskets at one time and it has no problem recovering its temperature. 

"We’re blanching the chips, which is a new way of frying for us, and we’re finding it gives a really good chip. We may well keep the unit after the promotion has ended!”

George's has been in Bourne for over 15 years and buys fresh fish, locally grown maris pipers and has recently added grilled fish to the menu and gluten free options on Mondays.
